Transitioning from a mother of 1 to a mother of 2 has been a lot harder than I expected. I honestly thought I would swing right back into things just with a slightly smaller kid in tow. Ridiculous, I now know. There isn’t any “sleep when they’re sleeping” (since there isn’t any sleeping 😉) and my preschooler has gone from relatively inactive to activity levels that are insane (actually really awesomely insane, I’ve been kinda waiting for this!) This has led to less structured meals and preparation, a whole lot of cold cuts, pasta and salad and caffeine. Lots and lots of caffeine.
Usually it’s caffeine prepared at home, but sometimes, when it’s been a particularly bad morning, I drive the scenic route and stop. At Starbucks. And sit in the parking lot and drink an entire coffee. And then feel A LOT better about my day.
Last night I was doing finances and stupidly added up how much this now bi-monthly habit was costing us and decided that my love affair with drive thru Starbucks must end.
So I’m challenging myself to take a year off.
